Dear friends of the Environmental Division (ENV),

The three 2030 CSCE Strategic Directions have been approved by the CSCE Board of Directors in June 2020, focusing on equitable and inclusive initiatives, civil engineering profile enhancement, and sustainability leadership. I am proud to report that each and every one of these mandates are well reflected in the many of our Division’s activities.

I joined CSCE as a student member when I was an undergraduate student at McMaster University. Many years later, I served on the Local Organizing Committee of the 2015 Regina Conference, and organized a small but wonderful technical program as the conference Technical Chair. Many of our international delegates enjoyed the warm hospitality of the Canadian Prairies and have continued to attend our conferences. I have been serving as the CSCE Environmental (ENV) Division Chair since June 2018. Thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers, paper reviewers, student competition judges, and session moderators, we hosted many successful ENV specialty conferences in the past years. These conferences are some of the many highlights of our Division’s service, helping us to better promote our profession. Engineers, students, researchers, regulators, and businesses came together every summer at our annual conference to share exciting science, make new friends, exchange stories, and explore new career paths. CSCE is like a family to many of us, and let us continue to support each other the best way we can.

The ENV Division would like to welcome all of you to participate in our activities, webinars, student competitions, social events, and many others. Specifically, we values our student members and we will continue to provide you with opportunities to extend your professional network and to polish your technical skills.

I invite all of your to reach out to our ENV Division leaders if you have any great ideas for short courses, lecture tours, and/or social events. If you would like to involve in the ENV executive committee, please kindly let me know. I look forward to working with you to better serve our ENV members.

Sincerely,
Kelvin Tsun Wai Ng, PhD, PEng
